Press Release: Santa Susana Slated to Remain Major Ecological Hazard

Today, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) and Committee to Bridge the Gap issued a press release revealing that the proposed cleanup at the Santa Susana Field Lab (SSFL) would leave in place toxins at levels seriously harmful to wildlife, and to public health. These revelations stem from recent documents from the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and Boeing on their proposed woefully inadequate cleanup of the SSFL “Burn Pit.” Toxic chemical and radioactive wastes were irresponsibly burned in open air pits for decades at the site, resulting in extensive contamination.
